Illinois · Mammography screening gap · 2024
How many women are unscreened?
We start with all Illinois women ages 40–74, then focus on those who report no mammogram in the past two years. Next, we look separately at their insurance, whether they have a regular healthcare provider, and whether they had a recent routine checkup.
Statewide unscreened population estimate
Of all Illinois women ages 40–74, we estimate how many report no mammogram in the past two years.
What care access and contact look like
Every percentage below uses the same M2 population as its starting point.
Definitely already due when the recent checkup occurred
A conservative timing rule counts only women we can classify as due at any possible point during the previous year. It does not tell us whether screening was discussed, ordered, scheduled, or declined.
What this page suggests
Many women with no mammogram in the previous two years are not completely disconnected from healthcare. Most report insurance and a personal provider, and about seven in ten report a recent routine checkup.
What the data cannot show
These data do not observe clinician recommendation, order placement, appointment scheduling, completion, or the woman's decision at the encounter. Those are later operational stages requiring other data.
